I hope all of you are having an AMAZING first semester and your midterms are going well! As my midterms are winding down (I only have one more)- I am reminded of how important it is to find time to de-stress! I am sure that most of you can relate to this as well. All the work is starting to pile up, and it is only getting worse as the semester will soon come to an end.
This concept of de-stressing is one that I have had in the back of my mind since the semester started, but I was always in the mindset of, “I’ll do it when I need to”. For the past two weeks, I have been completely burnt out! Something important that I realized is that you should always find time to relax, even if you feel you don’t need it. By setting aside a bit of time each night to just do what you like to do, that calms your mind in the long run and keeps you from going insane! For the past two weeks, I have been swamped with midterms and papers. I would stay in the library late at night and because I live in Long Island, I wouldn’t get home till it was LATE! By the time I showered and got everything ready for the next day, I would only have about four/five hours of sleep. I wake up early every morning because of early classes. On top of all the school work, I also had some debate work to handle and some other stuff going on, which only added to my stress! =(
However, now that all the craziness (well except one more midterm) is done with, I can finally relax and catch up on some MUCH needed stress. I usually go to school on Fridays to do work, but I wasn’t even able to go yesterday. I was so exhausted! I slept until 3:30 in the afternoon yesterday and until 2:00 this afternoon. I needed it!
I just wanted to remind all of you the importance of not pushing yourself to the limit, where you become COMPLETELY burnt out like I was. Also, as I mentioned, it is crucial to find some time every day to just “chill” and take it easy. A good 15 minutes will do. Here are some of the things I do to relax after a long week, or even just a long day!
1. Listen to music
2. Take a walk/run
3. Hang out with your friends. Go out to lunch and just talk about whatever. Here is the trick, try to avoid the topic of school.
4. Shopping =)
5. Watch TV
6. Read a book
7. My favorite… TAKE A NAP!
Those are just some… Even though these things sound too simple and like they won’t work, trust me!! They will =) It’s just a way to ease your mind. What are some things that you guys do to relax?
